Venture Funding For Female Founders Falls
Crunchbase breathlessly announced in its “Diversity Report” this week that startups with female founders and co-founders have raised over $20 billion through three quarters this year. Only when reading the full text of the report is it clear that only 3% of venture capital went to companies led by a female founder and that total venture funding for founding teams that include a female is likely to fall below 2018 levels.
In recent years, the relative lack of venture capital for female-led companies has been gaining attention. The Crunchbase report does show that the awareness is driving a shift as funding for startups with a female founder or co-founder has increased from 10% in 2014 to 13% so far in 2019.
